RULES OF THE FEDA ONE ACT PLAY FESTIVAL 2017

GENERAL RULES
• The festival was created for dramatic excellence and encouraging and motivating young actors and theatre practitioners – members of the television, theatre and educational world are invited to adjudicate each year
• Once again the Original Works Festival will open FEDA from 9 - 18 and the Published works from 19-15 May. The grand finale is on May 27th
• Plays must be not less than 15 min and not more than 45. min. please keep strictly to these times or the evenings are too long. We do not like to penalise students for being overtime but are often forced to do so.
• One man shows are not permitted.
• It is the responsibility of the school to obtain the rights of the plays that they enter. Please ensure you have contacted Dalro to pay and receive permission to perform the play you choose. FEDA will presume you have the rights to your chosen play if you enter.
• Please also remember that this is meant to be a student festival – by all means guide your students but do allow them to make their own creative choices.
CODE OF CONDUCT
• Please remember how privileged we are to be given expert advice on lighting and sound and treat the venue and staff with utmost respect at all times.
• Teachers are reminded that they are in charge of back stage and actors and cannot expect the theatre staff to discipline and do artistic work for each production. Students must NEVER be left unattended in the venue.
• The judge’s decision is final and no discussion may be entered into. A detailed adjudication will be made verbally at the end of each evening.
• Please only use the two hours for your technical rehearsal allowed in the theatre
• Please leave the dressing rooms as you find them.
• Please clean up all your props and costumes and remove them after your show. It is not the responsibility of the theatre staff to look after belongings.
• You have about 5 minutes to clear the stage after your show – please make space as quickly as possible for the next production.
DATES AND ADJUDICATIONS AND AWARDS
• There will be a workshop for the student directors on Feb 18th from 10 - 12
• A new set of adjudicators is invited to judge the final night so a fresh perspective is created.
• Awards are given for any excellent work – acting, directing, stage management, lighting, etc. Certificates will be delivered to your school after the Festival.
• If you wish to make a poster for your play please bring it to your rehearsal and we will put them up in the foyer.
FEES
• If you enter more than one play it costs an extra R1500.00 to the initial entrance fee of R2500.00
• Tickets must be purchased from the Joburg theatre web site www.joburg theatre.com
• Entry fees must be made to the Feda account Nedbank Benmore Gardens 1048284875 .Please send proof of payment to janbay@mweb.co.za.
• Once you have paid we will reserve a slot in the Festival for you.
• You may not enter a play that has won the festival within 3 years. Please find new material.
• Entrance fee must be paid by March 13 2017 – it is on a first come first in basis as there is a limit on the number of entries we can accept due to the time we hire the theatre.
