The /Ai/Ais-Richtersveld Transfrontier Park is a unique environment for adventure sports, having beautiful mountainous scenery, a remote wilderness character & the presence of the Orange River within a desert environment. This major river which meanders across Southern Africa from the Maloti Drakensburg Transfrontier Conservation Area, is known by the local Nama people as the Gariep River.

Desert Kayak Trails is an exciting new tourism offering & is the only luxury, fully catered kayak trail along a section of the Orange River which falls entirely within the Transfrontier Park. Trails can be tailor-made from half day outings to unforgettable 4 day wilderness experiences. Guests drift and paddle down the river in two-seater kayaks & are guided by knowledgeable and experienced river guides. Accommodation is provided in tents alongside the river. A wide range of activities can be enjoyed such as fly fishing, bird watching, swimming & relaxing.

The aim of the trails is to afford guests the opportunity to experience the unique biodiversity, geology & botany associated with both the desert & the river.
