MY BIG FAT FAMILY CAFÉ
Christofis Paulou Ioannou was born in Cyprus and began working in the restaurant industry 25 years ago. At 21 years of age he juggled studying with working in his uncle's classic American diner in bustling New York city. Here, Christo worked his way up from the bottom to the top – starting in the scullery, washing dishes, moving to waiter and manager in 5 years. In his family’s establishment he learnt everything about great customer service.
A chance trip to visit his sisters in Durban left the young Chris impressed by the beauty of KwaZulu Natal. His older sisters may have played a hand in his mysteriously "lost" legal documents with the result that Christo never left South Africa and remained with his family to run their Yellowpark Spar. The sisters knew that their young and ambitious brother didn't need much to make a success for himself and within a few years Chris had opened his first franchise seafood restaurant. With experience and family support behind him, growth was inevitable. Within a few short years the young Greek had opened 3 more restaurants in Durban.
A decision to "go it alone"saw Chris selling all of his franchisee restaurants to open a Coffee Break Café in CityView Durban. His coffee café provided fast power lunches; lunches to the corporate customer set and surrounding office parks. His passion for serving good quality food and providing great customer service inspired his decision to make move to open his own very own larger establishment. You can't keep a passionate Greek man down or small for too long, and within 2 years there were 2 more restaurants opened in Gateway and Florida Road.
Christo is an active member in the Greek community in Durban. He has been married to his beautiful South African-Cypriot wife, Eva, for 16 years and coaches his 16 year old son's soccer team at the local Juventus soccer club. His passion for his family and his adopted community is palpable.
The decision to open Café Limone allows him to consolidate years of experience in many different restaurant establishments and applying his own brand and style of dining to his own stores. From day one this passionate restaurateur has known that serving excellent quality food to neighbours, friends and family was what he was destined to excel in. Chris views his customers as an extension of his family and his philosophy is to always try his best to please his customers.
