The African Conservation Trust is a 14 year-old, Pietermaritzburg-based conservation charity Trust with a historical footprint of working throughout southern Africa. We are one of the new breed of conservation and environment NGOs beginning to make an impact on the international arena and our energetic, 21st century thinking and actions are protecting our planet and changing the way we live in it.
ACT's major focus areas are endangered species, conservation agriculture, sustainable use of natural resources (water, land, energy, fauna & flora) and biodiversity preservation and expansion. We also work extensively in the
Heritage sector, using modern technology to preserve Africa's rich history and culture.
Since 2010, we have successfully implemented projects in KZN with a funding value of over R36million in the above focus areas (major funder: National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund) as well as been the implementing partner for R27million in Heritage projects for the University of KZN. We have received R22million in new funding and during 2012 will be establishing additional conservation and heritage projects in KZN, plus extending our existing programmes into Limpopo, Malawi and Mozambique. Our finances are audited annually and open for public review. We are proud of our key strengths of transparency, financial accountability, strong governance and our ability to manage significant amounts of donor funding.
