College of Sciences - Hue University (referred as Hue College of Sciences) was formerly Hue University and was founded in accordance with the Decree No. 426/TTg dated 27 October 1976 by the Prime Minister on the basic of merging College of Sciences and College of Letters belonging to Institute of Hue (Institute of Hue was established in 1957). In 1994, pursuant to the Decree No. 30/CP by the Government on founding Hue University, the College of Sciences became an affiliated member of Hue University.

The Mission Statement:

“The College of Sciences - Hue University is a multidisciplinary and multi-field training institution with postgraduate and undergraduate degree programs, scientific research and technology transformation programs in terms of natural sciences, social sciences and humanities, and technology science. Hue College of Sciences provides the society with human resources, high-qualified science-technology products for the sake of serving the industrialization, modernalization in the country in general and in the Central Region and West Plateau in particular.”

FACILITIES FOR TRAINING AND RESEARCH

At the moment time, Hue College of Sciences has 13 departments, 01 sub-department, 04 administrative support offices, 06 centers, 02 divisions, and 01 library. The number of the staff is 476 members, among them there are 342 lecturers, 19 Associate Professors, 78 Doctors, 133 Master holders, 86 distinguished lecturers, 08 distinguished officers and librarians.

The College of Sciences has offered 8 doctoral programs, 29 master programs, 23 degree programs at the undergraduate level. In addition, HUS also offers 2 majors in post high-school training program and gifted high-school in Mathematics, Literature, Chemistry, and Biology. The number of students has been 10.000; approximately 1500 regular students, 1500 part-time students and 500 post high-school students are enrolled each year. The scope is increasing 10-12%.

The College has the area of 3.7 ha with 09 buildings. There are 92 standard classrooms, 12 classrooms are equipped with the audio and visual system, 47 basic laboratories, specialized laboratories, material room and museum, 08 computer rooms (approximately 400 computers) and 01 central library. The laboratories are built modernly and the library encompasses variety of materials meeting the needs of teaching and researching of lecturers and students.

During 30 years of building and developing, Hue College of Sciences has trained nearly 30.000 B A, M A, Ph D and so on, of which there are over 15.000 regular B A.

Hue College of Sciences always combines training with scientific research. Up to now, the College has conducted 1.535 research projects, of which there are 22 projects in the frame of international relations, 4 state-level projects, 159 fundamental projects, 312 ministry-level projects, 108 provincial projects, 614 basic and student projects.

Hue College of Sciences has been establishing long-term cooperative ties with dozen of universities and institutes in the world such as France, Japan, Australia, America, Thailand, New Zealand, Canada, Denmark and Italy.

The development strategies of Hue College of Sciences to 2015 and the commissioning program to 2020 are as follows

From 2009 -2010, HUS shall have 530 staff, of which 70-80 percent of staff gaining the knowledge of further education

From 2011-2015, HUS shall have 650 staff, of which 80-90 percent of staff gaining the knowledge of further education.

In the period of 2011-2015, HUS shall have 650 staff, of which 80-90 percent of staff gaining the knowledge of further education (30 percent of Ph D holders, MSc holders, 40 percent of main lecturers, 7 percent of Associate Professors and Professors and 2 percent of distinguished lecturers)
In the period of 2016-2020, HUS shall have 750 staff, of which 90-95 percent of lecturers gaining the knowledge of further education (60 percent of lecturers gaining the M A degree and 35 percent of lecturers gaining the Ph D degree)

THE STRENGTHS OF SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY, TECHNOLOGY TRANSFORMATION AND PRODUCTION

- The fundamental research fields which are typical of an institution of basic science in the Central Vietnam (natural science, social science and humanity, educational science)

- Practically meeting all the requirements of socio-economic development of the Central and West Plateau.

- Improving the strengths of present staff and facilities to become one of the centers for research and training in the Central region.

- Establishing the projects in multi-field, multidiscilinary and multi-level, the projects of apllication and science transformation contribute for the planning of sustainable development and proper exploration of the natural resources.
