Who are we?
A time and place where teenagers and adults of Da Nang learn English while doing and/or planning things they like. Learning should be fun and highly engaging. It should be active and participatory. This is the best way to learn. We are more than a language based program or school. We are more than a club. We are a way of life for language learning. Lets make learning interesting and fun.

Who am I?
I am Canadian and the founder of Active English Da Nang. I am a certified Canadian high school teacher. I have over 15 years teaching teenagers (grades 7 - 12) in a school setting, both in Canada and abroad (overseas in Egypt, China, and Indochina) I have three degrees: Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Science in Physical Education (Kinesiology), Bachelor of Fine Arts (Drama and Theatre Studies).

Who can enroll?
The language will be taught as we learn and participate in activities.
The program for 2017 is for ages 13 and older. Concepts learned may be too advanced for young learners. The language can be focussed to the level of the class. But the non-language based content will be quite challenging.

What do we do?
1) Drama skills are taught in conjunction with learning English. Think of it as an acting school. While the young actor is learning to perform drama in the world of theatre, they will absorb English speaking and understanding skills. Recommend ages: 13 -18
2) Sport and Health will be the focus for the athletes who join this part of the English programming. Diet, rules, etiquette, physical training, sport specific skill development will occur. Time will be divided between the regular classroom environment and an enrichment atmosphere out of the classroom in a sport specific setting - for training and practice. I.e.: basketball, volleyball, yoga, tennis, golf, swimming, etc. (as determined by the interests of the learners). Recommended ages: 13 - 18
3) "Event" based English classes. This program is created and targeted for young adults and adult learners of English and working programs. Learning and teaching is based upon life "events". We plan and brainstorm ideas together. The teacher then structures the content and often assigns duties to various students, on a rotating basis. We start with the principle of "inquisitive learning" and investigation.
I.e.: Event: Wedding - an invitation to attend a westerner's wedding was extended to you. Guiding Question: What will happen and what should I expect at a westerner's wedding? What language is critical to experiencing this event more fully?
The same general process could occur for a number of events: vacation, camping, sailing, attending a concert, dinner party. Etc.
The culminating activity is an attempt to duplicate the experience and test our language skills by actively engaging in the event.
