University of Pittsburgh Honors College 4.22

The University Honors College (UHC) is something of a paradox: Though headquartered in a newly renovated suite at the University of Pittsburgh’s Cathedral of Learning, we’re not really a bricks-and-mortar school within the University. And while UHC offers specific courses and the Bachelor of Philosophy (BPhil) degree, these options are available to ANY student (in any major) who demonstrates an extraordinary ability to pursue independent scholarship.

The Honors College at Pitt is able to offer many different programs due to its unique structure. Honors courses are available in a breadth of subjects, covering most undergraduate majors offered by the University. Honors courses are designed to stimulate intellectual curiosity while providing students the benefits of interacting in classes with less pupils relative to non-Honors offerings.

Building a strong community of scholars is also a key driver behind programs offered by the UHC, which is why Honors Housing is an integral part of our work. There are currently three Honors Housing locations on campus.

Finally, we understand that students are here to study their passions. Often, a bare-bones academic curriculum does not provide them with the resources or support they need to reach their full potential. Through research fellowships such as the Brackenridge, and unique degree programs such as the Bachelor of Philosophy (BPhil), the Honors College at Pitt is able to offer enriching programs that improve an already fantastic education for students attending the University of Pittsburgh.
