A couple of years ago, as my family and I were heading out to the park for a picnic I thought to myself, "I really need to get a better picnic blanket."
I began looking around online for a better blanket, and there were a couple of features that I was primarily searching for -
- It should have a waterproof base, so that damp grass or sand (or even snow) doesn't soak through to my clothes.
- It should be big. Really big. Big enough so that there would be room for the whole family.
- It should be easy to fold up and transport.
- It would be really cool if it had built in stakes!
I found a few blankets with some or all of these features, but they were pretty expensive - Generally around $80-$100. But even at this price point, none of them had the one feature that I thought would be really cool - BUILT IN STAKES. So, I set out to produce my own.
My goal from the beginning was to create an affordable outdoor blanket, that was at least 6' x 8', had a waterproof base, was easily portable, and had semi-permanent stakes attached to each corner.
