Opened in March 2016 in Portland’s Pearl District, The Hairy Lobster combines classic cuisine with modern cooking influences. The Hairy Lobster’s cheeky name is a nod to an old English pub; and keeping with the ambiance, the restaurant offers comfort-inspired food designed to be shared. The Hairy Lobster is the first restaurant together for the seasoned culinary husband and wife duo, Chefs Mellisa and David Root. Avid collectors of cookbooks from the 1800's, the Roots have found endless inspiration for the food, décor and ambiance in those pages. The Roots care deeply about the farmers, ranchers, and fisherman behind each ingredient used, and their menus feature classic American dishes created with heritage-raised and grown ingredients.
