The Ancona School has been fostering Preprimary 3-year-old — Eighth Grade students’ autonomy and creativity in the Hyde Park/Kenwood neighborhoods of Chicago since 1962.

Ancona’s Preprimary program is a fully-immersed Montessori environment. As students grow, our Montessori-inspired social justice curriculum focuses on the process of learning, rather than the product. We help children author their own lives by providing them opportunities to take risks, experiment, and collaborate with others.

Experiential learning is a cornerstone of the work that we do. Our highly skilled teachers celebrate the diversity of our students, engage them through hands-on learning activities, and provide them with the opportunity to apply their learning in real-world contexts.

Our travel program begins with apple picking in preprimary; camping trips are introduced in 3rd grade and culminate in 8th grade, with an immersive learning experience in Oaxaca, Mexico. Ancona students graduate as global citizens, empowered to change the world around them.
