Stuart-Hobson Middle School 3.83

Stuart-Hobson offers a curriculum that provides opportunities for discovery and interpretation, using the latest technology and the creative methods of museum-influenced and arts-infused materials.

Stuart-Hobson Middle School currently serves students in grades five through eight. However, beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, 5th grade will move to the Cluster’s elementary campus – Watkins. This will provide more space at Stuart-Hobson for additional students and expanded academic and extracurricular offerings.

Classes at Stuart-Hobson cover a wide range of subjects, including English/Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science, and Spanish as core subjects at every grade level. Students also experience special-subject classes – Instrumental Music, Technology, Visual Art, and Health/Physical Education – for each of the four quarters of the academic year. Students have the opportunity to earn high school credit for Algebra and Spanish in seventh and eighth grade. The school also provides a wide range of other enrichment and extracurricular activities for students, including musical theater, clubs, and sports including cross-country, track, volleyball, basketball, and football.

Stuart-Hobson has a number of teachers who have received or are working towards national board certification (a stringent process that goes well-beyond traditional teacher certification), and one of the recipients of the DCPS Art Teacher of the Year.
