Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

All wood floors can be restored to like new or better than new (with the rare exception). Often I have been consulted about refinishing floors in homes that other's have declared un-salvageable; and have subsequently restored them to the delight of the homeowners. Each floor refinishing job I do is given the same care and fine quality workmanship no matter the scope, location or condition of the home and floors. Working extensively with people buying and selling homes and realtors and their often specific time constraints is one of my specialties.


What do you like most about your job?

Wood floor refinishing is considered to be one of the most physically demanding jobs... but it also requires the finesse, acumen and artistry of the craftsman. It is this exercise of mind, heart and body that makes hardwood floor refinishing fulfilling to me. However, even more than the intrinsic rewards of my profession the greatest joy is the happiness of each of my clients as their floors become renewed before their eyes.

Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

Many of my floor refinishing jobs these past few years have been in older homes (new construction seems to have slowed; so the need for finishing new homes has lessened). Often the refinishing has been for home that are newly purchased, and the owners want their floors in "Like new" condition before they move in. Much of my work is also for people with their homes on the market to sell. While sparkling "Like New" floors may not increase the homes valuation, they do help the house to sell faster and at prices closer to the asking price (prospective buyers won't have to price haggle over the floors condition). Many of the floors I refinish are done for people who are living in their homes and are doing home improvements. Sometimes folks are doing just one floor at a time, sometimes they are having all their floors done (often while they are away on vacation). I do all sorts of refinishing jobs though, including offices, commercial spaces, restaurants, gyms and meeting halls.

Describe three recent jobs you've completed.

Three of my most recent jobs serve to illustrate the range of the types of jobs I typically do: 1.) In the University town of Amherst Massachusetts Sousa Floors just refinished an upscale half million dollar house. This including 2000 square feet of oak flooring, stairs, sills and moldings refinished with the top grade of satin oil-modified poly-urethane. 2.) In Brimfield Massachusetts Sousa Floors recently refinished the hardwood floors in a ranch style house in a suburban setting that will be placed on the market for sale. 3.) In Leominster Masachusetts Sousa Floors recently completed work refinishing oak and maple floors on the second floor of a rental unit in a two family house. This snapshot of recent jobs serves to demonstrate that I happily refinish all types of wood floors, from the inner city apartment to the stately vintage home. It is truly amazing how that even the most hopless floors can be marvelously revitalized.
