The facility is open daily for self-guided walking tours. The area features 20 structures, including clapboard houses, a school, antebellum brick mansion home, a church, and log cabins. The buildings date from 1807-1885.

Covering more than 80 acres of beautiful rolling hills in Kansas City North's Hodge Park, the museum dedicates itself to bringing the 19th century Missouri to life through special events, programs, tours and reenactments.

Tours, weddings and school programs are available by appointment. The facility is open each day for walking tours from dawn to dusk.

During the summer, weather permitting, the buildings are open so visitors may view the interiors through closed gates. Private tours are available by reservation.

The site hosts many special events throughout the year, including the Harvest Festival, the second Saturday in October; the Visit With St. Nicholas, the first Saturday in December; and in 2011, a Civil War reenactment, September 10, focusing on the Battle of Liberty.

Walking tour maps are available at the front gate, the kiosk, or the porch of the Mercantile. Picnic tables are available.
