Pinon Springs Guest Ranch, an authentic old western town offers you a chance to immerse yourself in a true 1880s experience while allowing you the indulgences of modern society. The town is spirited by the pioneers who helped forge and meld their pasts creating their future in the rugged mountains and frontier of Montana in the 1880s. From the old country they came; some from Norway, Ireland, Poland and Germans from Russia you’ll hear, smell and taste their contributions.
While a guest at Pinon Springs, you might wake to the roosters crowing, the smell of biscuits baking in the Dutch oven or bacon frying. Your eyes are not betraying you when you step out of your residence and head down the street to the dining hall dressed in the fashions of the late 1800s. You are welcome to bring your own attire or stop in our tailor shop to pick out some duds.
After breakfast, you may hear clanking as the hammer strikes the anvil down at the livery stable or the rich smells of saddles and horses inviting you to your morning ride. There is a special feel in a morning ride up the gulch watching the world awake as the sun peers down on Mount Haggin or on the red rocks on Stucky Ridge. It doesn’t matter the season, it is truly breathtaking.
Many activities are continually happening and waiting for you around Pinon Springs. You can lend a hand with daily chores such as gathering the eggs, baking, canning, making soaps, and gardening (daily activities of the 1880s woman) or help with cutting and splitting wood for baking and heating the hearth. You can also partake in many popular activities of the 1880s such as golfing at the “Old Works”, an 18-hole course designed by Jack Nicholson. The fish await you in many surrounding crystal-clear mountain lakes and streams where the salmon are abundant and the trout provide blue-ribbon opportunities at Georgetown Lake. You will want to treat yourself to the many activities Pinon Springs and the surrounding communities provide.
You’ll know it’s suppertime at the Dining hall when the smells lure you straight to the table. Time-tested recipes handed down from generations will leave you satisfied. The great food, drinks and desserts will have you spending time relaxing and enjoying the dinner table as conversations and music from the player piano provide you with a popular pastime experienced by the pioneers of yesteryear. Propping up against the bar in the saloon will surely wet your whistle before deciding on a game of checkers, faro or maybe a hand of poker. The city marshal will be on hand to keep the peace or you may risk spending the night in the jail.
Ending your day at Pinon Springs allows you to indulge in many comforts and activities. It may be difficult to choose between star-filled night skies that only the Montana wilderness can provide, crickets musically chirping, the rustling of wildlife to the smell of the pinon wood burning in the campfire.
The Bath House offers massages to individuals or couples by appointment from our licensed massage therapists. The calming music and aromas relax the muscles and calm the soul. A soothing dip in the “hot water hole” will cure your aches and pains from the chores of daily life.
Your comfortable bed and fireplace invites you to slumber. The down comforters and homemade quilts snuggle you allowing your mind and senses to reminisce on the day. As the town settles in for the night and tranquility presides, you may be joined by the distant sounds of wild life as the wolf howls and the owls screech, but your worries will drift away and the peacefulness of the gulch will lull you into a deep and restful sleep.
