"The Noank congregation has had a rich history compounded of Abolitionists and Copperheads, great revivals, fires and natural disasters, and innovative social ministries. Two hundred members of the former Second Baptist Church of Groton on top of Fort Hill were dismissed in 1843 to found a new church in the rapidly growing fishing and ship-building village of Noank. The congregation has been identified with that community ever since, gladly serving members and non-members alike as a true parish church." (Guidebook of the Noank Baptist Church - 1987)
