After many years of going back and forth across the St. Marys River on foot logs to Zion Sisters Baptist Church in Greenville, Georgia, it was decided to organize a church that was closer to home. In 1873, the dismissal was given and the church now known as Mt. Olive Baptist Church was organized. The first Pastor was Reverend Jim McGee, who served for many years. In 1958 it was decided that we
would build another building, a much more comfortable place to worship. The Reverend J.L. Hall became the pastor with a membership of 82 in 1959. On May 27, 1962, the cornerstone was laid and on June of the same year we moved into our new church with all expenses paid. In 1975 the old church was renovated and converted into a dining hall. In 1994, the lord blessed us to do improvements on his edifice by furnishing a new Pastor's Study and the ground breaking for our new fellowship hall. In 1995 we were blessed with the completion and dedication of our fellowship hall and the renovation our our present sanctuary.
