Our club consists of about 50 pond and koi enthusiasts that meet monthly to enrich individual experiences and to learn from each other. We are the only club in the Monterey Bay area. The club was formed in 2011. Our members range from those considering building a pond and looking for information to members with decades of experience and everything in between, including a few are professionals. The club is part of the AKCA (Associated of Koi Clubs of America - AKCA.org), an organization consisting of about 100 Koi clubs around the US and Canada.

From January to May, we meet monthly on the fourth Friday of each month at 7PM in Aptos, CA. Meetings typically last 1.5-2 hours. We discuss koi, koi ponds, koi health, water quality and water gardens. A typical meetings start with greeting of new members and visitors. We follow that with club business such as upcoming pond-related events, activities of interest to club members, issues that could impact ponds and koi keeping and club finances. We follows with questions and answers. We typically have a speaker from the club talking about some aspect of koi and ponds.Topics range from technical aspects of koi, ponds, seasonal impacts, pond equipment, parasites, disease and prevention. Once or twice a year, we have expert speakers that are well known in koi and pond community to present topics of special interest.

From June-September, we have a "pond socials" where club membersl converge at a club member's house to look at their pond, environs and have a short club meeting on a saturday afternoon. These are ALWAYS learning experiences for everyone. We usually have a pot luck. These events are really popular amongst the club members.

We also participate in three other koi-related events through the year. In April, the club supports the ZNA Koi Show in San Jose (see http://znanorcal.info/wp/). This is one of the California's best koi show and a lot of fun. Then, in June the club participate in the Santa Cruz Japanese Cultural Fair. We have a booth, show koi and answer LOTS of questions about koi and koi ponds. Finally, in October, one of our members does a koi harvest on their 375,000 gallon(!!) pond and sells many of the koi. Its always interesting.

We typically don't meet Nov or Dec.

Annual dues are $30/family. This also entitles you to subscribe KoiUSA, a bimonthly magazine published by AKCA, at a significantly-discounted price.

If you are interested in koi and ponds, you should join our club. You will find it refreshing, interesting and helpful. Hope to see you at one of our meetings.
