On August 23, 2014 ground was broken and the site was dedicated by Elder David A. Bednar. Work began on the site just two days later and is expected to progress rapidly.

The rendering of the Meridian Idaho Temple was released in a neighborhood meeting on May 14, 2013, along with a site plan.

The plans reveal a temple that is reminiscent of temple found in Cardston Alberta Canada, and Laie Hawaii. The plans also reveal numerous trees, water features, an a meetinghouse on the site.
