Founded in 1794, the congregation has worshiped in its current building since 1860. The Romanesque Revival architecture makes a soaring statement and provides a worthy space for the worship of God.

Market Square Church is the only remaining Civil War-era building on the square. Among its stained glass windows are one of the Ascension of Christ from the Tiffany Company of New York City, one by Mary Tilliinghast, a pioneering woman stained glass artist, and an English window depicting the moment of the Resurrection of Christ.

The congregation is devoted to worship through fine preaching and music. Music is enhanced by several fine musical instruments, including an 83-rank Skinner/Moëller pipe organ, a Steinway grand piano, a harpsichord, and a portative organ. An adult choir sings each Sunday and presents larger works several times a year, often with a small orchestra.

Throughout its history, the congregation has attempted to serve God and others through ministry to the poor and homeless; missions around the world; and through social justice activities.

The church is host to the International Service Center, a multicultural community-based non-profit organization.

Recent initiatives have confirmed the full participation of lgbt people and seek to foster personal spiritual growth.

There is room and welcome here for you!
