Maggie Malick Wine Caves is a female-owned, boutique winery in Northern Virginia, featuring 10-15 different varieties of cave-aged, award-winning, estate-produced wines and refreshing Sangria.
Visitors also enjoy outdoor patio seating that overlooks the 30 acres of vineyards and 15 grape varieties, several koi ponds and a 360-degree view of the valley's rolling green hills. We have live music on the patio during summer weekends.
The Wine Cave is located on 215 rolling acres in the shadow of Short Hill Mountain, near Harpers Ferry National Park, where Virginia, Maryland and West Virginia converge.
Wine-maker Maggie grew up in Washington State and joined the Navy, where she met husband Mark, a U.S. Navy pilot and, later, a commercial airline pilot. Today, when Maggie isn’t in the winery making award-winning vintages, she works as an aeronautical engineer. Mark is the winery’s grape farmer and a commercial vineyard real estate agent. Maggie makes the wine and Mark oversees production of grapes.
The Wine Cave tasting room and wine production facility actually is a modern twist on how wine was stored historically. Before the days of electricity and refrigeration, wine was kept in natural, underground caves because of their high humidity (which prevented evaporation of the product) and cool constant temperatures (perfect for the lengthy wine-aging process).
Maggie's Wine Cave is a man-made structure, covered in 4 feet of earth and grass. It provides a low carbon footprint and a unique wine-aging process for a Virginia winery.
