Details

The Long Beach Ukulele Orchestra was founded by Benoir and Jeff Alan in the Fall of 2013 to provide a platform for education and performance.

We facilitate a fun and relaxing atmosphere for anyone interested in playing Ukulele. We intend on releasing recordings in the near future and performing at live events including May 31st, 2014 at Arts In the Plaza.
Our group has evolved from a handful of players to a small ensemble of about 10 to 15 regulars. We rehearse Tuesday evenings at Studio Noir in the West End of Long Beach under the direction of Benoir and Jeff Alan. Two one hour classes (7:30-8:30 and 8:30-9:30pm) focus on basic Uke techniques and advanced playing skills like soloing and flamenco styles. Our repertoire is a mix of cover songs and originals that were well received at our first recital in December 2013. We welcome new members of all levels and age. We also incorporate other acoustic instruments such as mandolin, violin, viola, flute, percussion and upright bass. Benoir's experience performing works by Glen Branca and Rhys Chatham, composers who utilized 100 to 200 guitars has inspired a large ensemble vision that has yet to be realized. FIOS "Push Pause" produced a feature on our ensemble that aired in February and we are excited for what's to come.
