Our surgeon, Mark R. Young, M.D., has 19 years of experience in ophthalmology. He began performing laser refractive surgery when it was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 1995. The initial procedure, Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK), was quickly replaced in popularity by Laser-assisted in situ Keratomilieusis (LASIK), when it was approved the following year in 1996. Dr. Young now has 18 years of experience with LASIK, and brings that experience to Lincoln Eye and Laser Institute. Drs. John and James Liu were the founders of the practice, and ten years ago were pioneers in LASIK here in the Midwest, purchasing the first Femtosecond Laser in the area, to assist with flap creation. This was a landmark improvement over flap-making with a steel blade. Since that time, the Liu brothers have remained ahead of the curve in obtaining the very latest technology in all steps of the iLASIK procedure, a huge advantage to patients wanting the very best system available for their eyes. Our optometrist, Dr. Staci Hanus, O.D., has extensive experience in pre and post-operative care of LASIK patients, and has worked closely with our LASIK surgeons since 2007.
