Leland College was a college for blacks, but open to all races. It was established in 1870, first in New Orleans and then moved to near Baker, Louisiana, in 1923 after its original buildings burned. The school closed in 1960.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.Notable alumnus Eddie Robinson - former Grambling State University head football coach - Class Year 1941
