Joyful Living wants to heal the healer, and is focused on enhancing self care for caregivers; such as Social Workers, Hospice workers, Veteran staff, Medical staff, and all others who provide care. Joyful Living intends to bring Reiki to the frontlines of Direct Practice, and with it, the unique opportunity to heal, both the client and practitioner. Joyful Living encourages the creative in each of us to come alive and thrive, enabling the best versions of ourselves to emerge. Joyful Living coaching philosphy focuses on inspiration versus motivation. Living in inspiration results from a clear and open mind, and occurs above the ego. Joyful Living envisions sharing various excercises that can clear the mind and bring out the best parts of who we are, by reinforcing positive thoughts and positive outcome visualization. Organizational coaching focuses on increasing your staff's productivity, through increasing happiness and achieving work-life balance. Programs such as "Environment for Happiness" and "Team Enrichment" will increase your staff's ability to work through crisis with a calm mind and a supportive environment. This results in increased positive client outcomes, and decreased caregiver burn out, and vicarious trauma.
What is Reiki
Reiki (pronouced ray-key) is a stress reduction and relaxation technique, which promotes healing. Reiki is often known as healing by the laying on of hands. “The Reiki method is not only for curing illness. Its true purpose is to correct the heart-mind, keep the body fit, and lead a happy life using the spiritual capabilities human beings were endowed with since birth.”—From the memorial stone of Mikao Usui, Founder of the Usui System of Reiki Healing. Reiki is a very simple and powerful technique. Reiki is an energy healing treatment that works holistically; on the whole body, mind and spirit. Not a system of religious beliefs, Reiki is simply a relaxing treatment whereas natural healing vibrations are transmitted through the hands of a Reiki practitioner (acting as a conduit) to the body of the recipient. The purpose of a Reiki treatment is to relieve stress and pain, induce relaxation, release emotional blockages, accelerate natural healing, balance subtle bodies energies and support other medical modalities including traditional therapies. The word Reiki is represented by two Kanji (japanese symbols) Rei and Ki.
Rei refers to spiritual wisdom. The spiritual realm can be more specifically represented by "a higher consciousness, which goes beyond the ego" (Lynn Boggus, Virginia Reiki Treatment Center). It is out of this realm that creativity, miraculous experiences, and spiritual healing originate. (William Lee Rand, International Center for Reiki Training) Ki refers to the life force energy, it is the same as Chi in Chinese, Prana in Sanskrit, or Biofield Energy in modern Science. Ki is a universal life force energy, which animates the living. When something is alive it has energy surounding it and running through it; when it dies, the energy leaves the being. When your Ki or energy is low, you are more vulnerable to illness, when your Ki is high you are less likely to become ill. Ki is influenced by the mind. When you have healthy positive thoughts, your Ki becomes stronger (genki). Contrarily- if you have negative unhelathy thoughts, your Ki becomes weak and unhealthy (byoki).

We know Ki is responsive to our thoughts and our feelings, Reiki simply increases our flow of Ki. Negative thoughts can become lodged in the subconscious mind. These thoughts can create a permanent disruption in the flow of healthy Ki. The unhealthy Ki (byoki) attaches itself to organs and tissue in the body. The effects of this byoki are determined by where the blockage is, and can eventually cause illness.

When a reiki session is performed, the Rei (spiritual wisdom or conscioussness above ego) energy assesses where the byoki is and the healing is directed towards the blockage. Reiki assists in eliminating negative thoughts and feelings, replacing them with positive thoughts and feelings. The power of the mind is incredible. Becuase Reiki works with our conscious and sub conscious mind, healing is able to take place on levels beyond our comprehension.

A spokesperson from Columbia Integrative Medicine Program at the New York Presbyterian Hospital (CIMP) perhaps expresses it best, saying, “I find the practice of Reiki very rewarding, as a practitioner. Patients have reported deep relaxation and a sense of profound healing, after one session. I feel that Reiki is a huge asset for any hospital setting, because patients sense that they are in a truly caring environment." (http://greenlotus.hubpages.com)
