Itsasign LLC 3.08

I was happy being a teacher and, I believe, I was a really good one! This was clearly my calling. I was a busy mother of two boys juggling school and my own family while my husband deployed countless times over the last 15 years. This was my life. We were a proud military family with little to complain about.
Then, in January 2013, life as I knew it came to a screeching halt. My sister and I were diagnosed with breast cancer within weeks of each other. So, we had our mastectomies, our rounds of chemo, lost our hair (we both rocked the bald!), began our reconstruction, and both experienced setbacks which delayed our healing. It's incredibly difficult to have this disease at the same time as your sister, because it leaves you very little time to comfort one another. A cruel twist of fate, in my opinion.
But, after two solid years of surgeries and treatments, we are survivors and we are humbled by the support and love we received from our family and friends.
Throughout our journey, I tried my best to inspire others. Although I was not in the classroom at the time, I taught my students life lessons about strength and spirit when faced with adversity. Many parents continue to tell me about the impact I had on their children, in and out of the classroom.
At the end of my cancer journey, I realized that something had changed. It sounds so cliche, but I see the world a little differently now. "Sometimes our lives have to be completely shaken up, changed and rearranged to relocate us to the place we're meant to be." So, I quit teaching this past year and our family moved to a small town in Virginia that we absolutely love! The odds were stacked against us for a couple years so every time something/anything would fall into place, I would say "It's A Sign!"

We are thankful for the positive energy (another sign) that has followed us to our new home and I still believe that I have the gift to inspire others.
As spoken by Shakespeare, "The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away."
