Highland Herps grew out of a lifelong fascination with wildlife, but most especially the critters many, if not most, people find unlovable or creepy: reptiles and amphibians (collectively known as "herps" to those of us on friendly terms with them, from the Greek word for "crawl") and arachnids. It's our aim to instill a similar faschination with--and respect for--these much-misunderstood animals. Where appropriate, we also discuss the care and keeping of those species that make good terrarium animals; we believe strongly that future herpetologists, zoologists and vets are often drawn from the ranks of those who begin by keeping common pet species and do our best to foster conscientious and responsible reptile-keeping as well as appreciation and understanding of wild ones.
