We are a congregation of Christians of divergent backgrounds coming together as a family of God, sharing a central belief in the Lordship of Jesus Christ, called to serve the living Christ at home, at work and at play. We ascribe to a particular way of being a Christian community, namely, the Presbyterian Church (USA), a national community of faith with deep roots in the Reformed Tradition.
As a vital Christian faith community, we define our identity and mission as articulated in documents referred to as constitutional: The Book of Confessions and Book of Order of the PC (USA). Accordingly, our supreme loyalty to the living Christ is defined by the Holy Scriptures, inspired by the Holy Spirit and continually guided by the essential tenets of the Reformed faith.
Our church was established in 1810 and recognized by the Presbytery in 1820. It was first located on what is now the Smyrna golf course and had met from 1912 until July 18, 1999 at the corner of Maple Street and Sam Davis Road. The present building is the fifth.
The town of Smyrna got its name from the nearby church (Smyrna Presbyterian Church) when the railroad stop and the town were established.
In 1996, the members of South Trinity Presbyterian Church in southeast Davidson County united with the Smyrna church strengthening our numbers. Together, in 1999, we relocated to our new church where we are continuing the course the Lord has set before us.
We also have a MOTHER'S DAY OUT program that runs from September to May, each Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. They follow the Rutherford County School Systems calendar (with the exception of the start date) for holidays, inclement weather, etc. You can access our website @ www.fpcsmyrna.org for information on fees, etc. or call their line at 220-2220 and leave a message.
