Founded in 1958, the home of Engine Company 13, Station 13 is staffed by 4 Firefighters 24 hours a day. In 1996, Engine Company #5, located at Station 13, was disbanded and Rescue Company #1 was established at Headquarters. On April 22, 2003, a new Station 13 in Eau Claire was opened at 4112 Main Street, replacing the old Ensor Avenue station, which was in great disrepair. Engine Company 13 is the busiest engine company in the Columbia Fire Department, responding to 2,580 emergencies in 2011 & 2,679 in 2010. E-13 responds to fires, rescues, wrecks, and medical emergencies. In addition, Engine Company 13 is one of five BLS engines in the Columbia Fire Department staffed with at least one EMT to assist Richland County EMS in providing the best quality of care possible to the citizens of Columbia and Richland County.
