Emmanuel Family and Child Development Center started in 1986 with the concept
that the inner city minority children need an opportunity to grow and develop in a
positive, loving and spiritual way. We believe that children are to be respected and
valued as unique individuals and children of God.

We believe that children should be provided with high quality, well-trained teachers who
offers a safe, healthy, nurturing, creative and stimulating learning environment. Such an
environment fosters a love for learning. Children are provided with a variety of
developmentally appropriate activities and equipment that ensures opportunities for hands-on experiences. Emphasis is placed on families as partners. Teachers show respect for and communicate with children and families from diverse backgrounds. We believe that children learn best by doing, with the opportunity for choice and experimentation and development of problem-solving skills, positive feelings toward learning, and self-discipline through spiritual guidance.

We believe that when a parent goes to “work”, a child goes to “play”. Play is a child’s work. Miraculous things happen when a child plays. They are learning everything they need to know to function in “our world”. Children have an innate sense of what things they must learn, so they work very hard to learn them. Even when a child exhibits inappropriate behavior, they are trying to learn something. Simple household objects for young children become toys.

We believe that childcare providers should have a nurturing, stimulating learning environment that incorporates effective adult learning strategies, well planned classroom practices and thought provoking content. Their environment should empower them to take responsibility for their learning by seeking new information and increasing knowledge and by integrating concepts and personal experiences to develop their own children and their families. Highly qualified instructors show respect for learners with diverse backgrounds, abilities, and experiences.

We believe that adult/teacher educators should be familiar with and demonstrate the best practices in the field of early childhood education. Our Teachers also draw from their personal experience and formal education. Educators should provide teaching/learning environments in which students are motivated, and mentored to help them reach their goals and be respected for their individual gifts and needs. The environment in which teachers work should be supportive of their development, fostering life long learning, allows time and freedom for them to be creative, expose them to ethical behaviors and encouraging professionals.
