Dayton SMART Elementary seeks to create a national reputation for excellence in special programming for elementary. Our curriculum matches the Ohio Department of Education curriculum standards with specific adjustments made to tailor the curriculum to the needs of our students.

We have digital classrooms – a place where technology is available and used as a tool for learning. A variety of free and user friendly digital tools will be used to provide students with flexible learning paths to help them construct knowledge.

Our curriculum and instruction are aligned with the Ohio Academic Content Standards and Common Core State Standards.

2. Individualized Learning Opportunities
We work carefully to identify the ways in which individual students learn the best and then construct learning plans that allow students to learn in their own unique ways. Students, teachers, and parents are actively invested in these plans, to make the process of learning a collaborative effort.

3. A Culture of Exceptionally High Academic and Behavioral Expectations
Students and staff are held accountable to the highest standard in academic and behavioral expectations. Academic expectations include the thorough completion of all class work and homework, and being active, engaged participants in class. Students are expected to behave like teammates at all times, encouraging one another and supporting each other’s development in age-appropriate ways.

We constantly and consistently reflect upon our work, find areas where improvement is needed, and do whatever is necessary to make the changes and adjustments that are required for maximum student learning.
