Far Infrared is a part of the natural light spectrum just beyond visible light. You can’t see this band of light, but you can feel it in the form of radiant heat. The heat you feel from the sun, for example, is infrared energy. Don’t confuse it, however, with ultraviolet light (UV), which causes sunburn and damage to your skin. Infrared heat is healthy, natural and a safe therapy for all living things.

Infrared energy produces a uniform deep heat penetration without the usual sensation of feeling hot. This is achieved by using a specific Infrared band of energy peaking at around 9.4 micons; a level designed to penetrate beyond the skin (where heat is most acutely felt) to a depth where fat resides. As this subcutaneous fat begins to heat, your body begins to thermo-regulate itself by producing sweat.

How does it work?

The infrared energy released in the sauna is absorbed through our skin, creating a vasodilation of peripheral vessels. This can be beneficial in reducing muscle spasms, joint stiffness and general achiness. Increased circulation triggers the release of endorphins and relaxes tight muscles, decreasing overall stress. This will result in your entire body feeling much better! The infrared process also removes toxins that have been stored in your fat cells, including: mercury, lead, alcohol and nicotine. Our clinical experience with the infrared sauna leads us to believe these claims are true for most clients. The average sauna user can burn 400-1000 calories per session -- the equivalent to running 3-5 miles. Combined with a healthy diet you should quickly begin to see enhanced results in your weight loss and overall health!

Some researchers believe that infrared therapy can help stimulate the body's immune system by elevating body temperature. Many viruses, bacteria and cancerous tumor cells are thought to have poor tolerance to heat compared to normal healthy cells. A 30-45 minute infrared sauna session can cause a temporary 3° increase in body temperature. This increase has been shown to stimulate white blood cells which may improve your body's immune system. Given the human body's effectiveness in fighting disease by inducing a fever, an infrared sauna can assist the body in the fight of various diseases.

Infrared Sauna vs. Traditional Sauna

Infrared heaters warm the body in the same manner as natural sunlight. IR heat therapy uses the wavelength of the visible and non-visible light spectrum of sunlight that heats the body normally.

Traditional steam saunas raise the temperature of the air to a very high level within the chamber to warm the body. Some people have difficulty breathing in this extremely warm air. IR saunas work differently. Instead of heating the air within the enclosure, IR saunas heat the body directly. The result is a lower power bill and deeper tissue penetration. In the IR sauna, the body perspires and receives all of the healthy benefits but avoids the harmful and extremely hot air of a traditional steam sauna. IR saunas are safe for all ages.

Traditional saunas are more likely to spread and cultivate bacteria in the humid air, therefore an infrared sauna creates a more sanitary environment. An Infrared Sauna will heat up in a shorter time period than a steam sauna because it can heat the skin directly and does not need to heat the air.

How long and how often should I sweat?

Given you are in good and stable health with no contraindications for being in a "heated environment", we suggest 30-45 minute sessions. We do not offer session any longer than 45 minutes. Depending on what your reasons are for sweating, we suggest every 2 days for steady detoxifying routine or once a week for maintenance. If you are seeking major transformations or addressing health conditions, please consult you doctor before your appointment for a consultation specific to your needs.

Can I sweat with a friend in the same sauna?

Yes, you can! However, you will both still be charged for the session.

What do I wear in the sauna?

We believe it's best to have as much skin exposed while in the sauna as possible so that your pores are open and able to sweat freely. That being said, you can be in a bathing suit, tank and shorts, undergarments, etc,. We ask that you do not wear shoes or garments/accessories that could restrict blood flow and circulation.

Come ready to experience a sweat that will change the quality of your life! It doesn't get any simpler than this.
