So why is what Children International does important? Let’s explain.

More than half the world’s kids live in poverty — that’s a big problem. But to put it in perspective, we could give every child in the world an education for $39 billion — $17 billion LESS than Americans spend every year on their PETS. So, yeah! We CAN make a difference! To help in the movement to eradicate poverty, Children International invests in child-development programs as the most effective way to break the cycle of poverty. Our unique, global approach provides kids with three essential elements:

• A team of caring people who inspire, encourage and support them: local doctors, dentists, coaches and caring staff who really know our kids, plus a remarkable group of committed volunteers (8,000+ worldwide!) and 300,000 supporters!

• A safe place: 75+ community centers located where our kids live — true oases of hope with clean, uplifting spaces that include medical offices, libraries, computer labs, tutoring areas, meeting spaces and playgrounds. Our centers are unique because few organizations become such integral parts of their communities, allowing the kids and their families to truly own their transformations.

• A path out of poverty that addresses the issues of health education, empowerment and employment through country-relevant and age-specific programs and services:

Health: We help kids develop healthy habits and connect them with health services when they need them.

Education: We focus on supporting kids to complete secondary school. But education doesn't have a one-size-fits-all solution. So, to help, we give some kids fees or uniforms, while others may get supplies, tutoring or scholarships.

Empowerment: We help kids develop leadership, teamwork and confidence to prepare them for long-term success as adults.

Employment: We help teens develop workplace and technical skills with mock interviews, résumé writing, job connections and scholarships for college or vocational training so they can change their lives for good.

These nurturing benefits and support tell kids they matter in a world that often tells them otherwise. And when they graduate from sponsorship? They have transformed into empowered, encouraged and confident youth who will pay it forward, bringing hope and opportunity to others in their families, their lives, their communities and the world!
