Camp Nejeda is one of 5 independent non-profit US diabetes camps owned and operated to solely serve kids with type 1 diabetes. Camp Nejeda uses hands-on learning in a fun, age appropriate and emotionally supportive setting to teach hundreds of campers each year the skills and confidence they need to manage an intense and lifelong treatment regimen to survive and to delay and prevent complications.

Camp Nejeda provides two one-week and three two-week residential summer camp programs as well as three family weekend camps and several other special focus camp weekends throughout the year.

At Camp Nejeda counselors serve as positive role models, medical professionals teach important disease management skills and campers share experiences with other kids with diabetes while parents get a respite from around-the-clock diabetes management.

In addition to summer camp programs, Camp Nejeda offers Survive and Thrive Bootcamp weekend retreat for adults with type 1 diabetes. The next bootcamp retreat will be held June 2-4, 2017.

Because the daily responsibilities for treatment decisions fall to the patient and not a healthcare provider, children with diabetes can experience considerable stress and anxiety about their health and management of their disease.

Peer review research has found that disease-specific summer camps provide children with important education about their health care, improve their overall attitudes, and reduce specific anxieties about their disease.
