Burr and Burton Academy Mountain Campus 3.07

The Mountain Campus program is best compared to a "semester abroad" focused on environmental studies, similar to the programs at the Mountain School at Milton Academy, or the Island School in the Bahamas. Each semester, roughly 25 to 30 students immerse themselves in intellectual, physical and leadership challenges far more experiential and interdisciplinary than is possible in a more traditional setting. The core disciplines are environmental science, humanities (English and social studies), and outdoor leadership, but the interdisciplinary nature of the learning opportunity will allow students to integrate art, music, economics, mathematics, and other disciplines into the learning and exploratory processes.In a nutshell, the program's essence is an experiential study of the human relationship with our environment. At the end of each semester, we expect students to have developed a deep and meaningful understanding of that relationship, an appreciation for the importance of a sustaining community, and a clear vision of their own potential to effect positive change in this world. We expect students to bring this broader vision and passion back to the main campus once they return from their time on the mountain.
