BRASF: An Institution of Social Change

Bhim Rao Ambedkar Sikh Foundation is a non-profit organization that is committed to teaching of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji. BRASF credits the legacy of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar as necessary for socially uplifting the oppressed. Dr. Ambedkar wanted to spiritually promote depressed classes and was inspired by the philosophy of the Sikh Gurus and their supreme sacrifices for unprivileged sections of society.

Before Guru Nanak, according to Dr. Ambedkar, Mahatma Buddha rose against the Hindu Caste System. The top rung, Brahmins, formed new collaborations and launched a frontal attack on Buddhism. The collapse of Buddhism in India was a reintroduction of the Caste System in Indian society.

The root cause of suffering of downcast indigenous Indians, according to Dr. Ambedkar, is the Brahmanical ordering of South Asian society. Dr. Ambedkar urged his followers to completely discard Shastras, because Shastras sanctify “sin and corruption,” the root cause of the ancient sufferings of the “Moolnivasis.”

BRASF will create conditions in which inequities of Caste are replaced with social justice and equal opportunities for all human beings. To the world, therefore, we echo the challenge of Dr. Ambedkar:

“What are we having this liberty for? We are having this liberty in order to reform our social system, which is full of inequality, discrimination and other things, which conflict with our fundamental rights.”
