Bethel AME: Columbia 4.11

“And Jacob rose up early in the morning and took the stone that he had put for his pillow, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it. And he called the name of that place Bethel.” (Genesis 28:18-19)

The name Bethel, stands for "House of God". Jacob was acknowledging the presence of God in the place. He came to a genuine God-consciousness as a result of the dream encounter that he had the night before. It was a life changing experience.

Likewise, as Bethelites, we are here to worship God in spirit and truth and to help usher in an environment that will nurture a God encounter that leads to transformed lives for ourselves and others.
