The company was formed by William Kent back in 2007. William is the company's principal consultant and has 25 years of industry experience, initially working as a freelance climbing arborist, before forming W. J. Kent Tree Surgeons Ltd in 1995, which grew from strength to strength, achieving The Arboricultural Associations Approved Contractor status in 2011.

William studied at Merrist Wood College, Guildford and achieved the RFS Certificate in Arboriculture (level 2) in 2000 and The Arboricultural Association Technicians Certificate (Level 4) in 2002; however he did not fully venture into consultancy work until 2007 due to work commitments. In 2007 he achieved the LANTRA - Professional Tree Inspection qualification and became a trained and registered user of The Quantified Tree Risk Assessment (QTRA) system. This created the impetus to finally put the climbing equipment to one side and embark in consultancy services on a regular basis.

William returned to college in 2009 to study for the highly regarded RFS Professional Diploma in Arboriculture (level 6), which he passed in 2012. Following this he was awarded professional membership status of the Arboricultural Association (MArborA) in February 2013. He attends continuing professional development seminars and conferences regularly throughout the year.
