Widgit aids understanding and communication for people who find reading text difficult. Lots of people find it difficult to read and write – probably more than you think – and for many reasons. We live in a text-based society and if you cannot read well or indeed at all, the world can literally be a closed book.

If you use text in any setting to communicate, it is difficult to estimate how many people understand your message fully. It may be that the people who most need to understand it are not able to do so.

Widgit has taken this idea further and developed a symbol set covering over 40,000 words which enables people to ‘translate’ written text by combining it with symbols.
