NNEdPro Global Centre for Nutrition and Health 2.25

The Need for Nutrition Education/Innovation Programme (NNEdPro) is a knowledge management group with a translational/policy-relevant ethos, which recently won the 2015 UK Complete Nutrition Outstanding Achievement Award. NNEdPro arose from the work of the British Medical Association, where a pilot study was devised to deliver and evaluate a novel nutrition education intervention for medical students from 15 medical schools across England.

Through the success of this pilot study, Phase 1 of NNEdPro work was initiated. Phase 1 involved running 2-day workshops aimed at fourth year medical student, which aimed to pay foundations of nutritional knowledge and attitudes relevant to clinical practice, raising awareness, prevention and management of malnutrition in hospitals, and highlighting the principles of nutrition. These workshops were conducted as part of an education study to assess the impact of delivering intensive nutrition education to a cohort of UK medical Students.

We are currently in Phase 3 of our programme with the aim to strengthen the foundations and application of nutrition knowledge through education, research and innovation, in line with the action points outlined in the Global Nutrition Report 2015. NNEdPro conducts projects in the UK as well as globally through our NNEdPro Global Innovation Panel. In February 2015, we formally launched the NNEdPro Network in India at a satellite event of the 2015 World Congress on Public Health. Along with members of the Remedy Clinic Study group in Kolkata, India, NNEdPro successfully provided training in nutrition and research methods to local health practitioners under the Nutrition Education and Leadership for Improved Clinical /Public Health Outcomes (NELICO) programme. NNEdPro believes in providing nutrition education that can be sustained and practiced by local practitioners.
