Originally I came from Tokyo, where I met my English husband and who brought me to live within the Surrey Hills. I have a small studio on Leith Hill, which provides a really beautiful and quiet place to work. My main work is wheel thrown pottery using porcelain, stoneware and earthenware.

I love the throwing process, it is both inspiring and exciting, particularly as I’m now including Japanese Kimono patterns into my work. These patterns provide memories of my Japanese family life and particularly my mother.

I create my own paper stencils, reflecting the Kimono patterns into the greenware and then fire at 1000 °C to produce the bisqueware. The bisqueware is either glazed to off white or a semi-lucent colour to enhance these patterns.
