Starfish swimming school 2.17

All our lessons are for 30 minutes, are booked 10 weeks in advance and take place at Leeds Grammar School with my receptionist Cheryl. We teach 1-5 children ratio, we also provide 1-3, 1-2, 1-1 ratios.

There is no need for parents to bring swimming aid equipment (e.g armbands) as it is all provided .

Parents are encouraged to stay and watch there child/children's lessons. There is a viewing gallery at the grammar school.

Please can I ask that all parents/carers stay on the viewing area and not crowd the pool side as it is a health risk. The instructors will let you know when it is your lesson.

GROUPS AND BADGES

Starfish offer swimming lessons from the age of 3 years. 3 year olds are taught in small groups of 1-3 or 1-2 ratio.

We teach our lessons in six main groups:
Beginners
Advanced beginners
Intermediates
Improvers
Rookie Lifesaving
Awards

We will asses children at all times and move children around to the appropriate group when needed

We run a nationally recognised badge scheme. This is the amateur swimming association award scheme, which starts from the duckling badges, rainbow distance badges and gold challenge awards. We do not run the Leeds city council 'dolphin' awards scheme. Instructors asses children per badges on the booking day (I.e every five weeks). Badges are only given to children who have completed the award and the instructor is fully satisfied that he/she has achieved the skills needed for the certificate, every child is an individual and learns in different ways. The awards have to be swam with good quality recognised strokes, e.g breastroke, backstroke and front crawl.

FUND DETAILS

lessons run on a 10 week course, booking takes place at the grammar school on both booking days Wednesday 18:00-19:00 and Saturday 9-11:30am.

Cheryl is my receptionist and takes booking on both days. Cheques are payable to 'starfish'

We do not refund lessons if parents are away I.e holiday, long weekends or weddings etc. we do not refund missed lessons for minor illnesses I.e headache, sickness, cold, etc. we do refund lessons missed for serious illnesses for example a child was to miss all five lessons due to a serious illness, we would refund three lessons, the two lessons charged would act as a deposit to keep the childmplace open.

Lessons run on a ten week course , bookings take place in advance e.g you book your next block of ten weeks on the 10th week of every course.

If for any reason you do not wish to carry on your lessons please let myself know " if lessons are not paid for within two weeks of the course you will lose your swimming place

TERMS TIMES AND CLOSURE

our lessons are continuous and take place throughout the year. We run through school holidays unless stated in letter or poster form to let you know we are closed. If the unfortunate circumstance arises and you arrive to your lesson and it is closed and you have not been informed this is usually down to the fact that the grammar schools pool may have broken down (I apologise in advance)

Occasionally the school that I use may (as we do) close for a gala, special event or maintenance work. We usually contact parents at the first possible moment to notify them of the closure. Parents do not loose out on these occasions, for example if we close on week two the following lesson we start were we left off

General rules
1) we respect fully ask parents not to leave litter
2) could parents ensure that
i) their children do not enter e pool unless one of our instructors are present.
ii) young children accompanying parents are supervised at all times
iii) children and adults do not crowd the pool side an instructor will call you for your lesson
iv) we guarantee lessons are 30 mutineers and sometimes run over by 2-3 minutes
V) children have been to the toilet before the lesson begins
Vi) children are not eating anything e.g chewing
gum or sweets when the lesson starts
vii) you return to collect your child if you do not decide to stay and watch the lesson
viii) I would appreciate all funds to be paid in time for the swimming lessons

Starfish cannot accept responsibility for any property left on the pool side or in the changing rooms. If we do find anything left behind, it will be returned at the earliest possible opportunity.
