Shiatsu is an acupressure therapy (based on the meridian acupuncture system), with stretching and massage that works with your dog's natural ability to heal themselves. It is a non-invasive, gentle treatment that will compliment other therapies in accordance to a Vet's guidelines. Shiatsu is complimentary and can work in tandem with the veterinary system, for example if a dog requires aid reducing steroids for allergies, Shiatsu will strengthen the immune system and aid in achieving this goal. Shiatsu works with the muscles, the cranial sacral system, fascia, fluids and energetics of the body. In doing so, it can put back into balance organs, systems and structures which everyday life has seen to unbalance, and this is the same for animals. These imbalances are the basis for symptoms such as allergies, anxiety as well as life taking its toll and dogs suffering from arthritis or hip dysplasia.
Acupuncture is an excellent therapy for acute conditions, Shiatsu is supportive of chronic conditions, recovery situations, and unknown source of issues where a more Eastern approach can be taken. For example support weakened Kidney ‘essence’ by warming the kidneys, which in return will help the dog to feel well and strengthen them (this is a generalisation, but can be explained further). By exploring for patterns of hot and cold in the body, imbalances can be detected and systems strengthened, without knowing a cause; Shiatsu can work backwards from symptoms and group them to give an indication of where the animal or person may need underlying support. A good example of this would be a dog with chronic vestibular disease, shiatsu can relieve the symptoms and strengthen the body giving the dog a better quality of life.
As Equine Shiatsu has been a business for some time now and I hope respected by Vets; I would like to do the same for Canine Shiatsu. I find dogs are so receptive to receiving a treatment that they are a joy to work with, and show improvement where possible.

Symptoms that I believe Shiatsu greatly aids:
Digestive Disorders
Vestibular disease/ Balance problems
Arthritis & muscular/joint issues
Incontinence, nerve related issues
Back & hip problems
Allergies
Unknown emotional / anxiety issues
House moves/ Rehoming /Environment disruption
Post operation, trauma, birthing issues
