Scratch Club was founded by award winning DJ Captain Crunch in 2005 in a tiny little bar in Camden Town. It’s ethos was to provide an open mic / open decks event for anybody interested in Hip Hop culture in London and provide a stage for them to perform alongside major artists. The explosive popularity of the event meant that it soon outgrew it’s original venue and moved to the celebrated Central London venue ‘The Social’ near Oxford Circus.

By May 2006, Scratch Club was operating fortnightly in both The Social in London and The Yardbird Jazz Blub in Birmingham, an event hosted by local Beat maker Thomas Dunstan aka Automaton and Beatboxer Rupert Oldridge aka Bass6…. Scratch Club was smashing it in 2 cities.

The Birmingham chapter of Scratch Club is still going strong after nearly a decade in the game, with upcoming shows from Jehst, Akala, The Herbaliser, Mystro and High focus records performing in the coming months… Scratch club has also hosted the likes of DJ Qbert, The Souls of Mischief, Public Enemy, The Scratch Perverts, The Mouse Outfit and many more in the past, whilst always sticking to the original London ethos of mixing grass roots talent with international acts.

Two original Scratch Club residents are current, reigning world champions in the fields of Beatboxing and Turntablism, others are signed artists working for major labels, touring the globe with their music and producing music and soundscapes for film and TV. They all still grace the stage at Scratch Club from time to time too.
