Following a major refurbishment this unique museum re-opened in September 2016 and is open between 1 and 4 pm, 361 days of the year.

The Museum stands in a historic and beautiful location beside the Huddersfield Canal in the village of Uppermill, nestled in the hills in the middle of the area known as Saddleworth, an old Yorkshire Parish with its own identity made up of the villages of Delph, Diggle, Dobcross, Denshaw, Greenfield and Uppermill – which is a busy thriving village with plenty to see on your visit.

The museum tells the story of the people who have created Saddleworth’s landscape and character. Our displays change regularly making use of material stored in our archive.

We are an independent museum run as a registered charity; a charge is made for entry to the museum.

Art Gallery exhibitions change every six weeks and showcase the best local and regional art, photography and local craft. Admission to the art gallery is free and most of the artwork is for sale.

For disabled access we have a chair lift to the Art Gallery and a ramp to the lower floor. However there is no disabled access to the first floor.

Our shop sells a wide range of books, DVD’s, maps, gifts and souvenirs specialising in local wares. There is also a Tourist Information facility in the shop offering advice as well as accommodation details for the local area and further afield
