Thank you for your interest in the relaxation sessions. Let me tell you a little bit about myself and the relax sessions. I am a local counsellor/psychotherapist and I wrote the relax sessions for those of us who find it hard to relax or find it difficult to find the time to do this effectively. Stress related illness account for almost 60% of trips to the GP - and it seems as though we, as a nation, have forgotten how to tune into relaxation or feel that being busy is the only way to succeed or achieve. Quality relaxation is so important in this stressful world and can help with many physical and emotional difficulties i.e high blood pressure, stress related illness, muscle tension, anxiety, boost immunity, manage stress etc.

Whilst watching T.V, reading, having a glass of wine etc may feel like we are relaxing these activities are more of just a distraction from our busy day to day lives - our brains are still actively processing information whilst doing these activities. The relaxation sessions aim to get us to connect with our bodies 'relaxation response' which is our in-built ability to lower heart rate, breathing rate, and blood pressure and allow our minds (although fully conscious and aware) to rest.

Each week we cover different techniques and tips to help you manage stress and/or anxiety in everyday living and also tips on how to feel generally happier too. We do a breathing exercise each week and as we progress in learning how to relax it becomes easier to do. Your level of relaxation becomes deeper.
There is always a 'what we did today' sheet to take home so you can practice the techniques, along with other interesting and useful handouts and articles.

Learning how to relax fully and effectively can be a real challenge for some of us - and having a weekly session makes sure that we invest the time that we need to do this. Its so easy to procrastinate in this busy world and other things take over. The breathing and meditation are things you can practice at home too in between sessions. Would you like to come along? Let me know.
