Protecting Birth - Doula Services 2.27

Hi there, my name is Helen MacDonald. I am a mother of four children and I have five beautiful grand-daughters and our latest addition is a beautiful grandson.
I have been drawn to pregnancy and childbirth ever since the birth of my own first baby, some 30 years ago. I look back on that time and the years that followed as a wonderful and fulfilling time.
I studied midwifery in the 1990s and as a student midwife had the privilege of attending many births and being with many lovely women at this very special time in their life.

As a Doula, at the moment, I am only doing work for the Red Cross, supporting vulnerable women, asylum seekers and refugees, in the latter part of their pregnancy and when they give birth and I hopefully make their birthing experience a more calm, loving and joyful one.

I believe that pregnancy and childbirth is the most amazing and life changing journey. A journey that should have no fear, but instead, confidence and inner calm, knowing that our bodies were wonderfully designed to birth our babies.

Why 'Protecting' Birth? Childbirth over the past few decades has become more and more medicalised and a lot of women expect it to be so, but it is a natural process and there are many ways to support women, to protect their birth space, and to help them confidently birth their babies. <3
