Presence Theatre
believes in the power of the actor and the word. Through our productions and our educational and community projects, we seek to advance the art form of theatre for people’s enlightenment, contemplation, and pleasure. The company was founded in 2007, with the goal of redressing the problem of the ever-shrinking repertoire in the UK’s mainstream theatres.
The initial structure was an on-going weekly play reading group for actors, directors, and playwrights, aiming to rediscover great works of dramatic literature that have been neglected or rarely produced.
This group continues today, and has inspired a series of public readings, workshops, and productions. Our 2010 production of If So, Then Yes by N.F. Simpson at the Jermyn Street Theatre garnered high praise from the critics including a four star review from the Telegraph. Our 2008 production of Jon Fosse’s Warm at Theatre503 earned a four star review in Time Out. Our work has also been seen at Trafalgar Studios, Pushkin House, the Norwegian Embassy, and the Rose Theatre, Bankside. Workshops have been delivered to secondary school students, community centres, and public health charities.
As a registered charity that exists for the public benefit, Presence aims to involve the largest and most diverse audience that our resources will allow. If you’re in a position to support our efforts, consider helping us extend our reach and put our ambitions into action.
