Since 1979, Minotaur Theatre Company has been an ongoing showcase of the drama degree programme at the University of East Anglia. It offers a unique opportunity to see the next generation of young writers, directors and performers succeeding alumni such as Matt Smith (Doctor Who), Greg James (BBC Radio 1), Deborah Bruce (Director at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre) and Oscar-nominated screenwriter, Tom Bidwell.

Minotaur is a beast of theatre company with over 100 members, each with a raw passion to work within the arts. We aim to put on productions that are bold, adventurous and surprising. We write and devise original theatre as well as putting on the works of other writers in a way that excites new audiences. We hope that our audience enjoys watching our shows as much as we love making them.

Minotaur Theatre Company encourages its members to become involved in productions in a variety of ways, be it acting, directing, tech-ing, designing, stage managing or even just watching.

The productions primarily take place at the UEA Drama Studio. However, we strive to take ourselves beyond campus and into the city of Norwich, as well as further afield. We aim to put on as many productions as possible throughout the year. Alongside producing several pre-existing plays, Minotaur Theatre Company produces new writing; the ‘Shorts Festival’ is the production of several short plays over a series of nights. There is also an ‘in house’ creative writing competition in which the winner’s play is produced and directed by the company, providing an opportunity for a more extensive piece of original student writing to take the stage. Additionally, each year, we commission a piece of devised theatre for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival; a perfect place to publicise Minotaur’s wealth of talent on a national level. Cabaret: A Night at the Musicals is an annual performance with the single aim to raise money for charities. In previous years, thousands have been raised for charities including ACODO (Assisting Cambodian Orphans and the Disabled Organisation), The Elimu Foundation, The Meningitis Research Foundation and Parasol Project.

In the past, the company has had successful graduates such as; Matt Smith (Doctor Who), Greg James (BBC Radio 1), Deborah Bruce (director at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre) and Oscar-nominated screenwriter, Tom Bidwell. We hope every member, past and present, as well as those in the future, the best of luck in taking their next steps!
