You might ask: "What makes Licking Lizard Rocks different from every other online jewellery shop?"

I start from the stone. To me, the stone is everything. There are some amazing wire artists out there, and I did give it a go, but decided that for me, less is more. It`s not about showing off what I can do, it`s all about bringing out the beauty of the stone. I love traditional techniques of silversmithing as well, and I`m partial to celtic knots. I want to love what I do, and I believe that if something was made with love, it will shine through. Not the most commercial approach, I know, but the only way it works for me.

I make these "stones" myself, from rough rock, and while I can`t afford to have them all in my stock, I do have a fair few, as I like to try different stones to get a feel for them. That means though, that I can guarantee that it is real rock, because I cut it and shape and polish it. I never buy from China, at least not any more, because unfortunately there is too much fraud. It is possible to end up with plastic, and sometimes they dye cheap stones to make them look like something else. Now, at least I know that the stone I am setting is real. And that`s as important to me as it is to my potential customers.
I also work with metals. Some base metals, like copper, brass and bronze, either sheet metal or wire. The same goes for Sterling silver, and anything over 7.78 g is hallmarked, simply because that is the law.
Many people are unaware of what hallmarking really means. That`s why I thought I would add the information here, not only for customers, so they know what to look for, but also for fellow jewellery crafters, because some might not be aware.

It is an offence for any person in the course of trade or business to:
* Describe an un-hallmarked article as being wholly or partly made of gold, silver, platinum or palladium
* Supply or offer to supply un-hallmarked articles to which such a description is applied.
Articles below a certain weight are exempt from hallmarking, this is based on the total metal weight:
Platinum 0.5 grams, Gold 1.0 gram, Palladium 1.0 gram ,Silver 7.78 grams
An official Hallmark will have at least 3 (compulsory) marks: A sponsor`s mark (maker), a fineness mark (925 for sterling silver) and a Assay office mark(different ones for different offices)
The picture in our hallmarking album shows you a standard hallmark from the London assay office, where I am registered. The top one is the marks that are compulsory, the bottom one a traditional marking.
I hope you find this information useful. Please be careful when buying precious metal, as there is a lot of fraud, and official hallmarks are the only way to be sure that you are getting what you pay for.
