Details

Lambhill Stables is community development organisation and registered charity located in Lambhill, North Glasgow. The Lambhill Stables complex was originally built circa 1811 for the horses that pulled the barges through the Forth and Clyde Canal. it is a Grade B-listed historical building, consisting of 1 two storey unit and 2 single storey units.

The dereliction of these historic buildings had been a source of grave concern for the local community over many years. The Lambhill Stables organisation was thus established as a result of this concern to bring forward innovative solutions for the development of the Lambhill Stables using a sustainable social enterprise model. Over a period of 4years, Lambhill Stables Trust acquired the derelict premises and secured over £1million of development funding which ultimately led to the opening of a completely refurbished complex in June 2011.

Through the process we also:
*Engaged over 1,500 local people in community ownership and development
*Attracted an active membership of 250 local residents who elect a Board of Directors at each AGM
*Created over 7,500m2 of greenspace including a thriving community garden and local allotments
*Achieved nearly 6000 volunteer hours in 2011/12 alone
*Created 11 jobs and 4 apprenticeship positions
*Worked with over 20public, private and third sector organisations
